Re: Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund and School Rebuilding Fund
Total fund raised as of June 23, 2008 was $101641.93.
$91080.89 was handed to UNICEF, including CIDA matched and unmatched funding. (Including amount for CIDA matching and unmatched funding).
As agreed in the previous meetings with UNICEF, The balance of the total amount collected for the Sichuan Project which does not require tax receipts (i.e. $6570 1 to 1 orphan support amount and $3991.04 cash collections) will be combined ($10561.04)and send to Nanba School. (See August Minutes).
Upon issuing the cheque, Alex mentioned that Leo will not submit the cash collected as there might be donors wanting tax receipts, so the final amount deducting $834 is $9727.04. (See August Minutes).
This fund was subsequently wired out to Sichuan Mianyang City, Pingwu County, Education Bureau by Yong Wang (non-board members of the Foundation) and key contact for the earthquake orphan assistance program.
Report on school projects contacted by Advisor Yong Wang:
Nanba Middle School has officially changed the school name to华侨爱心中学to honor the donation by Overseas Chinese initiated by the effort of Love Through Education Foundation.
Special projects on China Project by Rose Jin:
University of Toronto and other Chinese charitable organizations have invited LTEF to participate in their China Project, which will focus on Community Hubs built in schools in the earthquake zone. The Chairman of China Project, Dr. Ka Tat Tsang will go to Nanba to visit the orphans and Nanba Middle School.
Summary of China’s Activities — By Advisor Zheng Ping and Director Lu Mingguang.
Zheng Ping advised a campaign has started to raise funds for a school library for a primary school in Chengdu.
Clean up the Accounts — By Alex Liew:
The need to creating two accounts.
Sichuan taxable & Non-taxable.
Old stuff taxable & Non-taxable.
Keep only one account starting August 08, 2008 after pulling out all donations that need to be applied directly to receivers without request of taxable receipts?
(Only 2008 donations).
Interim Financial Statement for the Foundation be made available by an accountant.
(Not yet done, too expensive).
Restriction of new activities until completion of re-organization and the set up of an Executive Committee.
Determine the date and time for next Board Meeting to discuss the progress of reorganization, the forming of the Executive Committee and the interim financial statements.
